“Special Seminar Series” at IMS Ghaziabad on 11 April 2016

“Special Seminar Series” – Session by Dr. Urvashi Sharma, Associate Prof, Dept. of Commerce, Delhi School of Economics, Delhi University

Accelerating the momentum of “Special Seminar Series” at IMS Ghaziabad, initiated by esteemed Director Prof. J.P. Sharma, Dr. Urvashi Sharma, Associate Professor, Dept. of Commerce, Delhi School of Economics, delivered her address on April 11, 2016. With more than 15 years of rich experience, Dr. Urvashi Sharma is also a course coordinator for MBA (HRD) at Dept. of Commerce. She deliberated on a very pertinent topic “Employee Engagement”, keeping in mind the burgeoning attrition rates in the organizations.

Dr. Urvashi Sharma introduced the theme to the audience by asking, “How many employees said that they loved their jobs?”. Her contention was that an employee engagement does not necessarily mean one is satisfied or happy. She quoted a “Gall UP” survey where it was suggested that in case of 20% or more employees are better off, it tended to boost the productivity of the organization. However, only 13 % employees are globally engaged with the companies. She further told that employee engagement is an emotional one. Those who are ‘Actively Engaged’, they are the builders of the organization. They have the passion & motivation both. The case in point was “Google”. Google promotes ‘job description’ through ‘employee branding’. She also quoted – “ To win in the market place, you must win in the work place”. Another category of employees was ‘Not Engaged’- who concentrated more on tasks than goals. It led to unproductive relationship with the organization. The third category of employees came under “Actively Disengaged”- they are like cave dwellers, virtually against everything. Dr. Urvashi Madam further clarified that an employee wanted “Trust & Competence” in the organization. While highlighting the importance of ‘Engagement’, she elaborated that an engaged employee was more productive and attrition rates were very low. There was also infusion of innovation in the minds of employees. She also tried to elaborate the points through video clips. The lecture was followed by ‘Question & Answer Session’.

Finally, Dr. S.K. Dube, Coordinator- Special Lectures, expressed “Vote of Thanks”, on behalf of IMS Fraternity to the ‘Guest of Honour- Dr. Urvashi Sharma and all dignitaries.“Special Seminar Series” – Session by Dr. Urvashi Sharma, Associate Prof, Dept. of Commerce, Delhi School of Economics, Delhi University
