Special Seminar on “Commodity Awareness Programme” held on September 10, 2019 at IMS Ghaziabad,

Under the auspices of “Special Seminar Series 2019”, a seminal lecture was organized at IMS Ghaziabad on September 10, 2019 for the benefits of IMSians..Mr. Vinit Singh Kaler, a seasoned trainer with MCX Mumbai was the Guest of Honour. He was welcomed by Prof. Alok Pandey, Director IMS Ghaziabad.

In his inaugural address, Prof. Pandey drew attention on the importance of MCX which has crossed a turnover of INR 65 lakh crore and going high further. In his address to the students he asked “why do we need trading in commodity?”In his opinion everyone should understand asset classes like equity, debt instruments, commodity, currency, real estate etc. Prof. Pandey also emphasized that IMS Ghaziabad has signed MOU with MCX for knowledge sharing and research purpose and the present seminar was the outcome of that initiative.

Mr. Vinit Singh Kaler, who is a seasoned trainer with enriched corporate experience, introduced the audience with the historical development of the MCX in India and drew attention on Derivatives and Commodity Markets. In his view risks are associated with every asset class and it can be minimized in commodity market through commodity derivatives.. There are 20-25 commodities in the MCX ranging from Agri products to bullion, energy, and metals. He also highlighted that MCX has over INR 80,000 crore of turnover per day and also MCX boasts of over 40 lakh user terminals across the country. In the end he also talked about ‘Dos and Don’t for the new entrants in the commodity market. After the lecture , “Question & Answer session” took place followed by “Vote of Thanks” to the distinguished guests.

Under the patronage of Dr. Ajay K Jain, Director and Mr. Mahesh Munjal, CMD, Majestic Auto Limited, IMS Ghaziabad successfully organized a Management Development Program (MDP) on “Finance for Non Finance Managers” in collaboration with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Ghaziabad Management Association (GMA). A string of reputed companies nominated about 30 executives for training, namely, Shriram Pistons Limited, International Tobacco Company, Avon Moldplast Limited, Unichem Laboratories, Uflex Limited, North Street Cooling Towers Limited, Bhagawati Steel, Delhi University and Amity University etc.

The Chief Guests of inaugural and valedictory functions included Mr. Dinesh Jain, President-Legal and Corporate Affairs, Uflex Limited and Mr. Sushil Kumar Agarwal, CMD, Avon Moldplast Limited respectively. Mr. Mahesh Munjal and Sri Vinay Gupta, Executive Director, GMA also graced the program.

In addition to Dr. Anurag Pahuja and Dr. Pankaj K Agarwal, the resource persons comprised Mr. N K Jalan and Mr. Romesh Sharma, both renowned management consultants.

Dr. Ajay K Jain welcomed delegates by highlighting with a Sanskrit verse that there is nothing in this world that cannot be made useful by a savvy person. The program concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by the conveners of the MDP, Dr. Pankaj K Agarwal, Professor and Dr. Anurag Pahuja, Associate Professor.

“Special Seminar ” on “ Emerging Market : Are We” at IMS Ghaziabad, by Guest of Honour- Mr. Shivendra Tomar, Managing Director – IIDL, & ED – ILD, August 3, 2018.
Under the stewardship of Director IMS, Prof. Ajay K. Jain , the “Special seminar Series” was organized . The theme of the current “Special Seminar”, was “Emerging Markets: Are We”. The Special seminar was first for the current session and 25th in a row. The Managing Director of IIFCI Infrastructure Development Ltd. Mr. Shivendra Tomar was the “Guest of Honour”.

In his inaugural lecture, Prof. Ajay K.Jain, Director IMS Ghaziabad, described Mr. Tomar as great “Entrepreneur and Transformational Leader”. In his view, Mr. Tomar, being CEOs of many companies, will be an ideal role model for young managers. For being a successful transformation leader, he emphasized on three aspects- Motivation, Transformation & Change Management.

The Guest of Honour, Mr. Shivendra Tomar, highlighted the existing vast rural population in the country, which amounts to over 90 crores, and has the ‘huge market potential untapped’ so far. He quoted Noble Laureate Prof. Amartya Sen, who talked about ‘social welfare economy’. In India , state like Gujarat has shown tremendous entrepreneurial abilities because of which people in rural India are flourishing. AMUL is a classic success story in this regard. Mr. Tomar exhorted young managers to look for entrepreneurial opportunities in procurement, storage and transportation related infrastructures ie supply chain and cold supply chain management. He was of the firm opinion that if post-harvest losses could be controlled, which are presently to the tune of 40 percent, India can emerge as net exporter in agri-product business. The session was followed by ‘Question & Answer Session’.

The Coordinator of “Special Seminar Series”- Dr. S.K. Dube, expressed “Vote of Thanks” to the distinguished guests and audience.
